When Susanne Alexander-Heaton approached us about hosting wine and literary pairings, we immediately fell in love with the idea. And if our first two events were any indication, so did you.
We hosted eight authors over the course of two evenings. Each author was asked to describe their book in a few words and with those words, (and the help of the staff at Britannia Wine Merchants) we selected a wine that would fit that same description.
There was lots of laughter, lots of literature and lots of wine. The evenings were hosted by Susanne Alexander-Heaton, who introduced each author along with the wine that was chosen for them. The authors were then kind enough to give a short presentation or reading.
The authors were:
Helena Kalivoda, author of Awaken
Fred Elford, author of Sometimes, I Fly
S. Roger Joyeux, author of The Story of Light
Beth Castle, author of Oxygen Mask
Jeane Waiter, author of Life’s Song and A Song of the Heart
Suzanne Alexander-Heaton, author of The ABC Field Guide to Faeries
Heather Good, author of Conscious Mindful Leadership
Tina Thrussel, author of Believe in Yourself, You Are Awesome: Journaling With Intention
After all the authors had read, everyone had the opportunity to sample the wines selected and to chat with the authors about their books.
We may or may not have gotten a little silly toward the end of each evening.
All of the authors are members of a wonderful group called Calgary Authors: Growing Past the Edge. They have all written and published books on spirituality or self help and support each other through meetings, sharing trade show expenses and promoting each other through the website: http://calgaryauthors.com
We would like to thank this wonderful and talented group of authors for visiting the Owl’s Nest and sharing with our staff and customers their books, their knowledge and their friendship.
If you are interested in attending future wine and literary pairings, please consider signing up for our Newsletter and Invitations email list. Just send us a note at owlsnestbooks@shaw.ca.

Great job, group! The photos are wonderful, and I’m sure you had a lot of fun. It’s super when we can share our books this way, celebrating words of wisdom with wine.
Wow, I felt like I was at a quaint, New York Bookstore! it was so much fun! a great time!
